Acoustilog was hired by the law firm for a commercial tenant that runs a sound stage and recording studio business. The building was having long-term facade work done which involved jackhammering directly outside the tenant's space. The tenant sought to terminate their lease (which ran into the millions over the lease term) but the landlord refused.
Alan Fierstein of Acoustilog set up a Calibrated Long Term Recording System in the tenant's space to document the levels of the noise disturbance in real time, whenever the noise occurred. This system not only enables us to measure noise that occurs at unpredictable times, but it also allows us to document a pattern of disturbance over an extended period, rather than just taking a "snapshot" measurement at one specific time.
Acoustilog's report demonstrated that the tenant's space was not only unusable for sound recording, but that the levels were high enough to damage the hearing of the employees and clients.
Using Acoustilog's report, our client, the tenant's law firm, was able to negotiate the termination of the lease.
